We Have A Winner!

Congratulations Susan! and thank you to everyone who entered, I had so much fun reading your funny kid quotes and pet stories :) I think my favorite one was:

"My son is 2 1/2 and was recently sick. Ever since then he likes to tell me he has a fever, mainly when he needs attention. Today while I was at the computer he came up to me and said, "Mommy, I hab two fevahs. A fevah in my tummy and a fevah in my awm." Then he told me he needed medicine. Little faker!!"

I like when moms can spell just like how their child sounds, so cute :)

Still Life Trio - Commissioned work

I did this set for a buyer last week. She wanted them all in this palette knife style, which is fun to do, so I'm glad people like them.

Avocado Love - Still life oil painting - 12x12

I know 12x12 inches isn't a very large painting surface, but I feel like this avocado is enormous!

May Sunset - Carpinteria Oil Painting - 18x24

This is another large painting that I did for the show. I gave that awful panel another chance, I added another coat of gesso first, it helped a little, but I'm still not impressed.

This show was a great push for me. I usually view my small 6x6 paintings as like an oil sketch, and then if I really like the composition and colors then I can turn it into something larger. But the problem is I get distracted and have a folder of things "to paint larger", the show made me finally buckle down and do them.

Sunrise in the Park - Carpinteria Oil Painting - 18x36

Dropped off my paintings this morning :) I had just enough to fill the spaces and even a couple to spare. The show runs through November 22nd, that's a long time! So stop by Corktree Cellars if you're in the area :)
Here's another one of the paintings I did for the show, it's huge and I love it!

Clouds in the Salt Marsh - Carpinteria Oil Painting - 18x24

My show at Corktree Cellars goes up tomorrow, I'm excited but I'm nervous too. Ever since I found out (8 days ago) I've been painting non stop... large, and non stop. I felt like I was in school again, and I had a cumulative final that I wasn't prepared for at all. But I did manage to finish 5 new large pieces, this is one of them:

I was trying out a new painting surface with this one....WORST panel ever, it was like trying to paint on water. I really do not recommend Speedball gessoed panels.

It's a Quiet Village - Original Oil Painting - 6x6

A break from my series of sky paintings. I forget where exactly I took this photo, I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in Austria. I just love the shadows, and how golden the setting sunlight looks.

Abstracted Sky - Landscape Oil Painted - 18x24

Another big one today. I've had these canvases sitting around forever because I really hate painting on canvas, but this sort of painting on them isn't so bad.

Storm in Blue and Gold III - Landscape Oil Painting - 12x24

Doing all of these paintings of thunderstorms is making me have dreams about them...last night I had to hide in my closet because there was a tornado outside...it was much more effective than it would have been in real life :)

Storm in Blue and Gold II - Landscape Oil Painting - 12x12

This painting was the hardest one I've ever had to photograph. It caused me to read my camera manual from cover to cover (something I've been putting off for months)....only to find out that the manual covers only basic things...like charging the battery, turning it on, and how it's not a good idea to drop it. I am now in a search for book, or secondary manual, or anything really that will unveil all the mysteries of my Nikon D3000 to me.

Storm in Blue and Gold - Skyscape Oil Painting - 12x12

The thing I miss the most about Denver is definitely the summer thunderstorms. It's nice that the beach is here...but not when "May Gray" and "June Gloom" have turned into "Fogust"... I haven't heard of one for July, but that was cloudy too. Now if it was thunderstorming here I wouldn't have a complaint at all :)

Carpinteria Cypress - Landscape Oil Painting - 5x5

Carpinteria has some pretty distinct trees and this is definitely one of them :) It's unique shape makes it really fun to draw....although it kind of reminds me of a bad hair day.

Sunrise Palms - Landscape Oil Painting - 12x24

This is the largest painting I've done in a long time. I was planning on taking several days to work on it, but I enjoyed it so much that I just kept painting into the night, and finished it in one day. I've never been so exhausted.

Two Boats - Stearns Wharf Oil Painting - 5x5

I've been working on these little 5x5 paintings this week because I bought these great 5x5" frames last week. I thought they would be fun to bring to Carpinteria's first friday celebration tonight :)

Avocado and Stripes - Still Life Oil Painting - 5x5

I think this little still life turned out really cute, especially in the little frame I found for it. I bought a bunch of these frames to bring with me to first friday this week, it's going to be fun!

The Monterey II - Seascape Oil Painting - 6x6

I don't know why it's been so hard for me to photograph these last two paintings...they're not as dark as the screen says they are. Luckily my friend Lindsey taught me lots of new camera tricks yesterday (yay!), maybe some of those will help.

I've been enjoying these little ocean scenes, it gave me a chance to try painting that sea green color. I discovered that viridian green was crucial for my palette :) And it can only get better with practice.
