Primary Umbrellas - 6x12

I expected that these bright umbrellas would be the most enjoyable part to paint, but I had much more fun working on the figures.

6th Street, Carpinteria - 9x12

There's just something about long shadows like these that always gets me excited.

East Beach Early Morning - 5x7

I was really surprised with how much I liked this one once it was finished.  I didn't think I was going to be able to convey how it felt that morning at East Beach, the early morning sun, trying hard to break through the last bit of lingering fog.

Santa Barbara Courthouse 10AM - 5x7

I'm so glad that my husband and I decided to get married in Santa Barbara County.  That meant we had to get our marriage license from this courthouse, couldn't ask for anything prettier :)

East Beach Grill - 8x10

I love blue and white striped umbrellas like these, and the interesting shadows they make.

Kevin - 6x6

This is one of my favorite birds, I call him Kevin.  I would have loved if the sun was out when I found him, but the sky was determined to be cloudy that day.

State Street Shopping - 6x6

I took the whole weekend off from painting since it was my husbands birthday.  The sun came out just in time for it, it was a wonderful weekend! And there was a much larger turnout for the reception at the Red Door on Saturday than I expected.  I sold a few pieces, hopefully a few more will sell before the show ends this month.

Our Town V - Carpinteria Oil Painting - 12x24

I'm afraid I'm a little behind with my daily paintings now, since I spent two whole days working on this larger piece.  I think I need at least a few larger pieces for this upcoming show, so it was worth it.

There is another reception at the Red Door Gallery tomorrow from 4:00-6:00, please stop by if you're in town! And ask me questions! I need practice in answering them :)

Blue and White Stripes - 6x12

My husband saved me from an umbrella just like this one at the beach last weekend.  It had gotten a little windy and someone's umbrella had sprung loose, but for some reason the pointy end (not the umbrella part) was headed full speed at the back of my neck.  Luckily my husband is part jedi and caught it just inches before it hit me.  Thanks love :)

Sly's Valet - 6x6

I think this is the only restaurant in Carp with valet parking...and it seems a bit unnecessary :)

Sidewalk and Shadows - 9x12

I painted this just for that bright bit of sunlight that's happening on the grass and sidewalk.  That yellowish green color is always my favorite.

Beach Chat - 6x6

I had the best weekend! I love summer by the beach! My sister came down to visit and brought her raft/boat? I'm not sure what you call it, but she made me paddle out much farther than I expected.  Seals grunted at us, and we learned that creepy salamander like things live all over the kelp.  I got to play beach volleyball on Sunday, something I haven't gotten to do in years, SO much fun!

And of course there's lots of people around on the beach, which makes it the best time to practice these types of paintings :)

Summer Waves - 5x7

Still practicing adding figures to my paintings, I'm liking it more and more. This one was especially fun, painting his jacket was my  favorite part.

Attic Window - 5x7

I felt a little Hopper-esque with my composition of this piece.  I sketched out several ways I could paint this  house but I kept coming back to this one.

The reception at Gallery 113 last night was wonderful! I think it was my favorite so far, even though the heat upstairs was almost unbearable.  I had lots of visitors who had seen my work in the News Press.  One old man came down just to see my work but couldn't get up the stairs, I felt so bad! His daughter helped me carry a few pieces downstairs so he could see.
I'm still not great at talking to strangers about my work, but I think I'm getting a little better, it seemed a bit easier last night. I'll keep practicing.

I love the colors that appear around sunset, it makes even boring buildings like this come alive.

Santa Barbara Harbor XXIII - 6x6

Went out for a sunrise walk this morning and found the evilest looking bird ever.  I got a photo, perhaps he'll make it on the blog later.

For now here's a painting that is bird-less, and not evil  :)

Dopey - 6x6

I had SUCH a wonderful 4th of July yesterday, and a much needed break from work.  Now I feel energized enough to continue preparing for the Palm Loft show in August, I have a lot to do!

"Dopey" seemed like a name that fit for this guy.  He was pretty expressionless and was always the last to get at the food I was throwing.

Karate Kid - 5x7

I don't know why it was this kids job to sweep the sidewalk outside the karate studio....my husband said  to "earn his lessons", that sounds reasonable.

It's going to be a busy weekend here! My Red Door show opens tonight, I'll be there from 5-8.  There is also the Art & Sole walk on Saturday, it starts at the Red Door at 4:00.  Hope to see some of you there!
