Lunch at Sly's- Carpinteria Oil Painting - 6x6

I guess it's weird that this place has an inside "patio"...I was more interested in the geometrical shapes that this scene contained.

Santa Barbara Harbor XIII - 12x24

This is the largest in my harbor series so far.  The sky turned out to be the most difficult part of the whole  piece.  It looks like it should be the most simple...and I think that was part of the problem, it was so calm while the actual harbor part was so busy.  I painted it three times before I was finally happy with it...I never do that!

Just for me :)

A version of "Lighthouse Hill" by Edward Hopper.  My kitchen had a big empty wall, and since I don't really like hanging up my own artwork (I'm much too critical!) I made this to fill the space.

Santa Barbara Harbor XII - 12x12

I was determined to finish this in one day, and as a result painted way too late into the night. My whole body ached after! But it was worth it...

Work in Progress...

I've been working on a few larger paintings this week, here's a preview of one of them:

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Plein Air Limited Palette - 5x7

This is something I wanted to experiment with, I felt like I was bringing SO many different tubes of paint when I went out to paint.  So in this one I brought only the very basics (I even gave up my favorite green!) Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Ultramarine Blue, and Titanium White.

Ocean Storm - Original Oil Painting - 18x14

I love the colors in this piece.  I like doing these stormy/cloudy paintings sometimes, I feel like I can be a little more free and abstract them.
