Palms on Cabrillo - 18x24 - and upcoming show!

For those of you who are local, I have a show going up this Sunday (Dec 13).  I will have pretty much every one of my available paintings displayed, and I've been painting like crazy to get them ready (and enlisting a very helpful husband to assist in all the framing!).

The show will be up at Zookers, 5404 Carpinteria Avenue, Carpinteria, CA 93013, from December 13th through February 13th.

And now even more exciting news, look who decided to show up a week before his due date?

Santa Barbara Courthouse - 8x10

A commissioned piece of the Santa Barbara Courthouse.  I'm very pleased with how this one turned out.  It was a view that I had been wanting to paint for a while.  Always nice when there's a commission to give you a nudge!

View from the Santa Barbara Zoo - 9x12

I always love this view when Lily and I are wandering around the zoo.  Of course lately it's been FAR too hot for that, a never ending heatwave really takes it out of you when you're 7+ months pregnant with no air conditioning.

State Beach Panorama - 6x18

Such a clear day and an almost empty beach, couldn't pass up the opportunity to capture these golden and blue hues.

Clouds Over Carpinteria - 8x10

The beaches have been crowded here thanks to the very warm weather, but it's still nearly empty when Lily and I go at 9 am...which also happens to be when the colors seem to be the clearest.

Pear Half - 6x6

A very simple still life.  I'm not really one for white frames but I think this would look great in white.

Leadbetter Beach - 18x24

We've been working the last month or so on moving my studio.  New spaces always take some getting used to.  This is one of the last pieces painted in my old place.

Cantaloupe Slice - 5x7

I cut open this cantaloupe and thought "what a great orange color, I can't believe I've never painted one of these" so I gave it a go.

Butterfly Beach - 12x12

So we finally got my new computer up and running (why is that such a painful process??) and I'm trying to calibrate the monitor and it's making me question everything! Showing my paintings accurately via the web is complicated because they'll look a little (or a LOT) different for everyone, yikes, it just makes me sad! I guess this is just the type of thing that will always look better in person.

Here's the new one for today, one of my favorite beaches:

Groovy Red Pepper - 5x7

I discovered that my toddler will eat red peppers! Well, only if she gets to dip them in hummus... but it still gave me the opportunity to capture these curvy red pepper shapes, which were surprisingly fun to paint!

Beach With The Berm Up - 8x10

I painted this one a while ago, while the berm was still up at our beach.  They build one every winter to protect the beachfront properties (I think) and it becomes the kids favorite part of the beach.  I think Lily really misses her sand "slide".

Three Mandarins - 6x6

Thank you to everyone who made it out to the studio tour this weekend! I think this may have been my most successful year.  Which is certainly encouraging considering the limited amount of time I get to paint these days!

Today's painting features some of these bright little oranges that me and Lily have been devouring lately.  I just love the bright orange color next to the blue of their shadows.

The Empty Beach - 6x12

Starting to get things prepped for the annual Artists Studio Tour! I can't believe it's already that time again. So mark your calendars for May 9th, I'm only doing one day this year instead of all weekend. So come see me! I'm hoarding up some new work as well as offering great studio prices on other pieces. Eucalyptus Fog - 5x7

I was driving home on the 192 on a completely gorgeous day, the setting sun was breaking through the fog and just making everything glow.  Wish I could have captured more of it, but with  no place to pull over and a fussing toddler in the back this is as good as it got :)

Palms and Rooftops - 12x16

The building in this painting is such a random color, but I love it.  I've painted it several times and I love the pop of coral/orange it brings to each of my pieces. I hope they never change it.

Empty Beach Sunset - 6x12

Like I said in my last post, this afternoon light is killing me! Golds and blues and crisp mountain silhouettes.  It's been so warm lately, and the tater tot and I have been spending a lot of time at the beach...I never get tired of this view though...

Winter Colors, Carpinteria - 6x6

This was the view walking home with Lily in the stroller one day.  The afternoon light is just killing me lately, I want to paint everything! But this particular afternoon these trees were glowing and calling to me, especially contrasted with the blue of the sky.

California Blue and Gold - 8x10

I decided to change it up a bit for this one.  I wanted to use thicker paint and I also used a round brush that fought with me through the whole process. I'm happy with the result (and the thicker paint) but I think the round brush and I may be parting ways.

Three Strawberries - 6x6

First post of the new year!

Snatched these three ripe berries before my toddler ate them all (and by "ate" I mean she took one bite out of each before declaring "all done").
