The Egret - Daily Oil Painting - 6x6

I love seeing all the different types of birds that live around here.  There was a whole flock of these egrets while I was walking on the beach one day.

Bailard Palms - Carpinteria Landscape Oil Painting - 16x20

These were some of my favorite palm trees in Carp, they were such a good shape! Then they decided to cut them up a few weeks ago, now they're just boring.  This was painted from one of my last reference photos of them.

Mammoth Snow - Landscape Oil Painting - 6x6

One of the views from our window in Mammoth last week.  I was so happy that it was sunny the whole time we were there, I love the contrasts of blue shadows on snow.

Tangerines on Blue - Still life oil painting - 6x12

The rain finally took a break this morning, so I hurried outside to see if I could get a few photographs so I'll actually have something to post this week.  Not the best, but at least it's something :)

After the Storm - 6x6

Happy St. Patricks Day everyone!  I made Irish Soda Farls this morning to complement our Irish breakfast, I recommend them, they were so easy!

I was feeling brave with this one. It had rained all night and the sun was finally breaking through, making everything that was wet seem very bright.

A Great Brush Find!

There's nothing like a painting with a new brush.  My absolute favorite type of brush is a flat, but no matter how hard I try to take good care of them they wear out pretty quickly...or maybe it's just that I usually find a favorite and then use it every day.   But once a flat brush does that weird fanning out thing, it's pretty much a lost cause.

I usually don't write product reviews but this brush was so awesome I just had to share:

   Royal Langnickel Bordeaux Flat

I paid $2.47 for the size I got, actually less than that since I had a coupon.  I wasn't expecting much, I mean seriously, it's too cheap to be good, but it was also worth a shot.  I'm SO glad I did, I love this brush! I even prefer it over my much more expensive brushes.  I've been using it for about 2 weeks, and so far it's still amazing.  Even the handle feels amazing, and I love the purple color.  Next time I'm buying one in every size!

Tangerine with Stem II - 5x7

Continuing on with the series,  I love these guys.  Orange is kind of a challenging color to work with, I'm not sure what it is about it.

Linden Avenue -Carpinteria Oil Painting - 12x16

We just got back from an amazing weekend in Mammoth, skiing in 50 degree weather and no Denver traffic is great!  It might be time to invest in my own ski boots though, my ankles are killing me.

Here's a painting I did before I left, and that's all I'm going to say about it because I'm excited to get back to work!

Trader Joe's was selling boxes of these adorable tangerines all with the stems still attached.  I'll be doing at least a few more of these.

Butterfly Grove II - 6x6

I felt so free with this one.  I was more concerned with the illusion of light and the feeling of the trees, rather than the particular shapes and details.

Carpinteria Tar Pits Park - 18x24

We've definitely had some interesting clouds here lately.  Right now it's so windy I don't think a cloud could survive, Charlie the cat is racing around the house like the world is ending.... I don't think wind is his favorite.

Watercolor Day

I felt a little stale last week, I still liked what I was painting but I felt I needed an exercise to get out of my normal way of thinking.  Working in watercolor forces you to think about everything backwards, just what I needed to mix things up a little.

From the Rooftops - Santa Barbara Landscape - 11x14

I keep seeing blog posts by other artists saying they're sick of the cold and sick of winter... well in Santa Barbara "winter" is never really here, so I can't say I'm sick of it, but I AM happy that the sun is starting to stay out later!

Zach and I headed out to First Thursday last night. And I was very happy to receive an award at the opening reception of SBAA's new show at the Channing Peake Gallery.  There were over 300 submissions and only about 70 pieces got in, I felt lucky to have both of my paintings be accepted :)
