Line Up - Pear Still Life Oil Painting - 6x12

This one is definitely my favorite of the recent pear paintings. I spent yesterday putting the finishing touches on a much larger panel. I'm very excited for my medium sized panels to get here, I'm a little tired of the larger sizes. I was also working on my book jacket cover that I'm donating for an upcoming fundraiser here. So far it's turned out much better than I expected! I'll post pictures of it as soon as I'm finished.

Amsterdam Sunset II - Landscape Oil Painting - 10x20

I love the size of this painting, it's not too big, not too small, just right. There are a few ingatherings next week, and hopefully this painting will be a part of something.

In other news, we are having quite the heat wave this week. I think it got to over a 100 degrees yesterday, that's warm for right on the coast! My husband said it was 115 in LA. And somehow my studio was the hottest room in the house.

It's too hot for Charlie to have more than two feet in bed.

Kitchen Pears - Still life oil painting - 6x6

These two pears were hanging out in my kitchen just begging to be painted. My mom brought them up from Blum Ranch in Acton...best pears ever.

Afternoon Vines - Original Oil Painting - 6x6

I liked how the light was hitting these vines, and those shadows in the back just begged to be painted.

I made some blog changes yesterday, I added a portfolio tab, and I also added an option to buy prints of my work. Let me know what you guys think! :)

Itty Bitty Avocados - ACEO canvases

I just couldn't resist painting a few of these tiny canvases. I think they would make cute little gifts, or stocking stuffers...not that I'm getting excited for Christmas already :)

Identical Panel, Different Brand?

My favorite paintings surface, hands down, is Ampersand Gessobord. They're a little on the pricey side...but so worth it, since they're magic. A few months ago however I bought a lot of these Blick panels, they're not terrible, but they have this weird canvas texture on them that bothers me sometimes...they're just not quite as magical.

Then I stumbled upon these at Art Essentials downtown:

I was instantly intrigued, a value series from Ampersand? What makes them different from regular Ampersand? I quickly inspected them only to find that they're the exact same panels as the Blick ones. With the same weird canvas texture, and the strange hang hole in the back of the flat ones, and available in all the same sizes. Have any of you had similar discoveries?

The Yellow House - Commissioned Work - 12x16

It was a wonderful weekend! Made pasta with some friends, had my first Art Association meeting, LONG overdue hangout with Emilee on State St (the sun was even out!), frozen yogurt, and Zach even made dinner last night...and I think had way too much fun doing it, he has now deemed Sunday to be "Sunday Steak Night". I never cook red meat, I think he was feeling a little deprived.

Bailard Avenue II - Carpinteria Landscape Painting - 18x24

My new favorite piece. My favorite part is the palm tree shadow on the street. I considered changing the colors down there a little, to more of what they actually were...I'm glad I didn't.

Bluffs at Dawn II - California Landscape Oil Painting - 16x20

What a blessed month I'm having! Etsy sales are good, I've gotten great reviews from the show at Corktree, and yesterday I was accepted into the Santa Barbara Art Association! I got my feedback from the jurors and they only had good comments (not very helpful, but it also didn't kill my spirit, which is good). I love September :)

Commission - 8x8

This is a commissioned piece that I finished yesterday. I didn't get to actually visit the place I was supposed to paint, so I only had several photos to work from...hopefully I did an alright job.

A Will To Grow - Landscape Oil Painting - 6x12

I found this interesting tree on the Carpinteria Bluffs one morning. This was also a strange angle to paint it from, but I really like how it turned out.

Busy busy day today, but it ends with homemade apple crisp :) yum!

Autumn Light - Palette Knife Oil Painting - 10x10

I had a lot of fun with this one. These palette knife paintings are always so messy, I end up with paint in my hair, on my face, just everywhere!

The Long Thunderstorm - 12x36

Zach and I had a great time wine tasting in Solvang yesterday, if you ever go make sure you look for the 2 for 1 tasting coupons first! We ended up with one for every place we went, so our whole day was half off. And we even found the apple orchard :) I'm so happy about the bag full of fresh picked galas in my kitchen.

Here's my first three piece painting, I love the colors :)
