  1. OMG I would love to win this painting. You are a very talented artist! I have 2 little dogs. One was born with no eyes. I adopted her from the vet clinic I was working at. She had alot of medical problems and was not expected to live very long. Happily I am proud to report that she is going on 13 years old now and she is not suffering in any way. For safety she sleeps in a mesh playpen with my other little dog at night and if I am away. They never try to get out because they love it in there.

  2. Yay! I love your work, and would love to win this...

Okay, here's for a crazy pet story: It was a warm summer's day when my friend Jerry was taking a leisurely stroll through his neighborhood. As he rounded the corner and headed down the homestretch, he saw a dog across the street. He'd never seen this dog before, so he was surprised when the dog bolted across the street to come say hello. Unfortunately for the dog, a car was speeding past just at that moment. The car hit the dog (don't worry, dog was not injured!) the dog flew through the air....and straight into Jerry, knocking him unconscious. So there's Jerry, lying unconscious on the side of the road, and the dog runs off down the street. Can you imagine being that driver?!

Am I a bad person for thinking this is hilarious? :)

I'm already a follower, but I'm giving you a shout out over on Roy Joy and FB!

My best friend's pet peeve is loud chewing...

    Does that count??? ;)

  4. I'm a new transplant to CA so I'm a recent convert to avocados and I always love your avocado pieces :)

    Here's my pet story:
I have 2 great cats that are indoor-only. The female, Daisy, is totally fine with this. Gatsby, the male, however, is always trying to get outside. He's really fast so if you hesitate for even a millisecond when opening or closing a door, he'll dart out. In my last apartment I lived on a busy street so this was particularly a problem. My front door had a screen door and the top half of the door was just a mesh screen. The screen wouldn't stay in the door frame, no matter what we tried, so there was about a fist-sized opening in the bottom right corner of the screen.

One day I'm sitting in my living room with the door open so just the screen door is closed. I hear the scraping sound of something against metal. When I look over at the door, Gatsby has jumped and dug his claws into the track across the middle of the door where the screen attaches, using his back claws against the bottom of the door to propel himself upward. He then succeeds to pull himself up and catapault out the hole Superman-style.

It was a particularly hilarious pet moment :) Luckily for me, he only took a few steps outside before I could compose myself to run and get him!

  5. This weekend is bar far the most mind-bending, heart wrenching time with my pet: my deaf dog jumped out of the car window. Whole story here: http://shutterboo.com/2010/08/24/the-bdds-not-excellent-adventure/

  9. Oh my! Since we have seven cats and no kids, I'll definitely have to go with a pet story.... One day I was making some lamb stock with some leftover bones from a stew I'd made, and had it simmering away merrily on the stove. I was just out of line of sight of the stove, and suddenly had one of those "hey! it's eerily quiet, so what's going on?" moments. I went back around the corner, and found that Kira, who is an ex-feral cat I trapped, had dragged a soup bone out of the cooking pot and was crouched over it in the middle of the kitchen floor. How she avoided getting burned is beyond me!

Needless to say, EVERYTHING on the stove gets a lid these days.

Love the painting -- have my fingers crossed! My e-mail is stockingstufferaday at gmail dot com. Thanks!

  10. LOVE the painting and now it is making me crave some yummy guac!

Here is a funny pet story from last night: We own a huge german shep/chespeake bay mix, huge meaning 95lbs. Last night my husband wasn't feeling well so fell asleep in our bedroom very early, the dog, Rivers hopped up on the bed to take a quick snooze as well. About 15 minutes later i hear him doing his low growl half bark thing he does when someone knocks on the door, except no one had knocked on the door and he was still in our bedroom. He apparently caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror on the bed and freaked. Silly dog wouldn't come out of the bed room for 15 minutes.

  12. I guess my funniest pet story is when I was walking my golden retriever on a gentle leader, so the leash clip is lower to the ground. He stopped to try and paw it off and somehow, somehow managed to get the leash clip stuck inside of his paw. Basically, he had a bit of skin stuck on both sides of the leash clip, so it was almost impossible to get out. We had to take him to the vet, and they just laughed because they'd never seen anything like that before. They eventually slid it out, but it was a one in a million thing.

  16. Love your paintings Sharon. I've been eyeing the two pairs on the turquoise plate. Love the avacado's too. Something so California about avacados.

Now for my pet story. My Aunt loves animals and often has local dogs visiting her from time to time. They know a dog lover when they see one! Well, this cute beagle likes to come over and he will howl/sing as my Aunt plays the piano. I've seen him in action and it is so cute...One of these days I'll get a video of him singing. Apparently, he only does this at her house.

Will click to follow your site!

  17. Hi Sharon, I love your paintings, and the chance to own one via a give away is a great idea! When my indoor only cat Lucy was a kitten I was panicked because I couldn't find her anywhere...in my one bedroom apartment mind you. I finally heard a peeping sound coming from the sleeper sofa. She had managed to squeeze herself up and into the small space at the back of the sofa. It became her new hiding spot until she grew too large to crawl up there.

  18. I remember when my sister was around 3 years old, she once packed her clothes and told our mom that she is leaving us. Something had upset her. But packing was so tiring that when it was time for her to start moving out, she just didn´t have strength anymore, she just needed a nap. :)

When I asked him what he was going to do with it, he got very excited and said, with a huge smile on his face, "I'm going to save it and give it to my wife." To which I replied, "She will love it."

  23. Funny Pet Story: I have a HUGE Bull Mastiff named Diesel. He weighs about 120-130 lbs! He follows me everywhere around the house and when I start to get ready to leave or pack up my car he tries so hard to sneak out of the house and into the car so he can go with me. One day I was packing my car to spend the day at a friend's house and he snuck out when I wasn't wathing. He jumped right into the driver's seat and sat just like a person would! He looked like he was driving the car! He looked through all the windows, sniffed the steering wheel, and even peeked his huge head out of the sun roof...he approved and he was NOT going to budge! It took all the strength I had and I could not get him out of the driver's seat! So I had to take him with me. I squeezed in the car next to him and he finally moved over onto the center console and finally into the passenger's seat. He rode there the rest of the way. Silly boy!

My son is 2 1/2 and was recently sick. Ever since then he likes to tell me he has a fever, mainly when he needs attention. Today while I was at the computer he came up to me and said, "Mommy, I hab two fevahs. A fevah in my tummy and a fevah in my awm." Then he told me he needed medicine. Little faker!!

  30. My best pet story: When I was little, my cat had a litter of kittens. We were in the middle of home renovations, so there were holes in walls and floors everywhere. Mommy cat decided to "hide" her babies in a small nook between the second floor joists... we had no idea.

A few days later, we kept hearing faint cries on the main floor - had no idea where they were coming from. We searched everwhere, then realized it was coming from the wall. Apparently, one of the kittens fell all the way down and was stuck behind the wall. My dad had to take a jigsaw and cut a hole in the wall so we could rescue the little guy! He made it safe and sound! :)

shelby, 'c*ck'... i verify again, indeed it is 'c*ck'
me, 'where did you learn that word'
shelby, 'you know, the sound ducks make'
    me, 'you mean quack'
shelby, 'oh yeah. quack, quack, quack, quack'

    Pet Story:
Well I don't like housework but this is what I did when my dog Murphy went blind.

I got on my hands and knees and put lemon oil on all the legs of the furniture in my house. This helped him find obstacles and prevented accidents.

Mind you I still didn't dust very often but the legs were smelly and clean...

  35. best kid story - OMPugness, when my son was maybe 3, maybe less we were in Sears. I sat him on the counter while I waited for my fabric (yes, 30 years ago Sear had everything). Little boy picked up my tape measure, stretched it out from boob to boob and announced very loudly, "22". For a long time after, he always called the tape measure a 22.

  37. I absolutely love this print and it would look totally amazing in our mid-century modern home! Thanks for the giveaway!

Here's one of my favorite pet stories...we've got 7 pets so I've got quite the arsenal but this one stands out to me :)

We adopted two littermate kittens (a boy and a girl) when they were around 8-9 weeks old from the humane society last November. My husband and I do have 2 other cats that I adopted when I was in college...those two are front paw declawed as at the time they had to be for me to be able to rent housing! But, we decided against it for these two as we've got a giant cat tree with sisal wrapped posts and figured we could train them what to and not to scratch. When they were tiny babies we put them in my office with one of those cardboard scratchers and a hanging sisal board on the door.

One day my husband was spending time with the kittens and the male kitten decided to scratch on the carpet. Seeing a great opportunity for what it was he corrected him and went over to the sisal door hanging to show him the appropriate place to scratch. At that time we didn't realize the drive our female kitten has to scratch on sisal when she hears someone else scratching on it (she will run from the other side of the house and leap up the cat tree if you start scratching on it). So my husband bends down with Luke (the boy) and starts scratching the hanging with him. All of the sudden Leia (the girl) leaps from out of nowhere and clings onto his butt! He was laughing so hard he didn't know what to do...of course it was extremely painful...and he was reaching back trying to extract her claws from his rear end which was no easy feat.

I only wish I could have been there to witness this :) Hope that brightened your day up a bit!

  41. Beeeeyouuuuuteeeeful work!!!! I would love to see your paintings on a much larger scale... 50x50 and up! The colors are so vibrant.

As for my story, my kids (2 and 5) have soft-boiled chicken at least 5 nights a week. And so they're so used to it and love to eat it that we always trick them into eating broccoli or the veggie du jour by positioning the spoon in front of their mouths without them seeing it, then saying out loud in a sing-song voice "chiiicken!" and they open up and eat it up. Simple case of Mind over Matter!

  55. I actually have a cat that fetches. She goes crazy for my ponytail holders. She can sniff them out wherever they are left: on a table, in a drawer, on the bathroom counter. The problem is, she has decided that if she can drop a "pony" at my feet and have me play with her, maybe it will work with other stuff, too. Like with palmetto bugs, for instance! There is nothing quite so horrifying as having your cat come through the cat door from the porch, yowling with pride to announce that she has a prize for you, and run straight to you and drop a big 2-inch palmetto bug (essentially a roach) onto the couch next to you. Nice!

  65. I have wonderful pet stories - tons. I have two little gatos named Mish and Rosco. Mish is a lovely, regal, stoic little fellow, while Rosco plays the comedic relief at all times. He tips over more than he's upright. Scratch him behind the ears for ohhhh let's say three seconds, and he'll topple off the back of the couch onto the floor.

He also eats odd things. I cleaned out the junk drawer one day. Rossy got into the trash, and let's just say that eating tape, newspaper, and brads doesn't agree with my little man's delicate palate...

We tried desperately to get him to say 'mule muffins' instead to no avail. We had guests over one evening. Skyler, of course, had to say his new word. We explained, yet again, that it was not 'bulls**t', it was 'mule muffins'. Skyler sat under the chair in the kitchen for about 15 minutes, repeating over and over again 'Tis not 'mule muffins', it's 'bulls**t'. It was hilarious. Within a few days, the word was gone and never heard again. We do, however, have a very funny memory of that not so nice word.
