Sly's Sunset - 8x10

I was walking down Linden one evening and the sun was finally hitting this building just perfectly, it's such a fun yellow color, I've been waiting to paint it for a while.

The Spot, Sunset - 6x6

I'm trying very hard to get ready for all the upcoming shows this summer, check out my events page for more information on them.   I really enjoyed painting this new take on The Spot, it felt so dramatic, I love the contrasts that happen during sunset.

Corner House Carpinteria - 9x12

I liked the small version I did of this house so much that I knew I needed to do a larger one.

Beach Shadows - 5x7

The beach was full of interesting and dramatic shadows this morning.  They added some fun new shapes to regular flat sand :)

Our Town - Carpinteria Oil Painting - 11x14

I love how this one turned out.  When I started it I expected it to be painful and challenging to complete, but it turned out to be one of those rare wonderful happenings where the painting you want just flows right into existence.

I'm excited about today, I have lots of time to paint this afternoon and I'm going to try out a few new techniques.  Maybe something good will happen :)

Palms on the Beach - Santa Barbara Landscape - 6x6

I really liked the shadows around these palm trees around sunset last night. Trying to get more motivated to paint on my larger surfaces again. Sometimes I feel like it's big commitment, and I should just see how it turns out on a smaller size first.

Tall and Slender, Dusk - Carpinteria Palm Trees - 6x12

This is another version of a painting I did a few weeks ago. But at sunset instead of early morning. I really liked the first one, but I think I like this one even more. I didn't know if I would be able to portray the time of day accurately, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

3rd Street - Carpinteria Landscape - 6x6

I loved how bright this grass was in the sun this morning. I also liked the bright blue of the boat cover next to it...but I couldn't get it as bright as it actually was, even though I have probably 7 different blues to work with.

Coastal Park - Oil Landscape Painting - 6x12

This is the view from our window in the morning, I love how the morning sun casts long shadows on the field... makes me want to do cartwheels.

Carpinteria Salt Marsh at Dawn - Landscape oil painting - 6x6

This is one of my favorite places in Carpinteria, especially in the morning. And there are some of the craziest looking birds in this marsh (anyone who knows me knows how excited I get about birds). One looked like it had the body of a penguin, but with really long legs, best. bird. ever.

Tall and Slender - Carpinteria Palm Trees - 6x12

I made trip into Santa Barbara yesterday, camera in hand, looking for new things to paint. I think I only got three good shots the whole time I was there. I have much more luck in Carpinteria, maybe because it's less crowded, and there are more open spaces (that's why I love it). This painting is of one such space.

Shimmer and Buzz - California Landscape Painting - 6x6

I just love how this one turned out! I liked how bright the white fence was against those big dark trees. I will probably rework it a little and then paint a larger version as well.

Sandyland in the Morning - Carpinteria Landscape Painting - 12x12

This painting reminds me of my childhood :) It's the entrance to the beach we would (and still do) always go to.

261 Linden Avenue - California Landscape Painting - 12x12

This is the view from our front window in the morning, turns out I don't have to look far to get inspiration here :)

I'm really enjoying working on these larger panels, I'll have to find somewhere else to show them soon or I'll run out of room to store them here.

Carpinteria Salt Marsh - Daily painting by Sharon Schock

I was trying something a little different for today, I felt like maybe some of my paintings were too bright and I wanted to see what it was like to tone it down a bit. I'm trying to be more open to experimentation, because I know that's a great way to learn.....it's frustrating though.
