Linden Sunset - 6x6 - & Show Results

I found out yesterday that I won first place in the "Urban/Architectural Landscape" category in the Art Along the Creek show (yay for blue ribbons!).  And second place in the "Figure/Portrait" category... that one really made me laugh, you all know I hardly ever paint people! And certainly not well enough to win an award :)

Leadbetter Beach - Original Oil Painting - 8x10

My birthday gift to myself was spending yesterday afternoon spring cleaning my studio, everything's so organized now! Almost ready for the upcoming studio tour.  I'm starting a huge painting today, it barely fits on my easel, wish me luck :)

From the Rooftops - Santa Barbara Landscape - 11x14

I keep seeing blog posts by other artists saying they're sick of the cold and sick of winter... well in Santa Barbara "winter" is never really here, so I can't say I'm sick of it, but I AM happy that the sun is starting to stay out later!

Zach and I headed out to First Thursday last night. And I was very happy to receive an award at the opening reception of SBAA's new show at the Channing Peake Gallery.  There were over 300 submissions and only about 70 pieces got in, I felt lucky to have both of my paintings be accepted :)

Sailing in Santa Barbara - Original Oil Painting - 6x6

I love all the sailboats that appear gliding through the water most weekends in Santa Barbara....I don't really want to sail...but I do like looking at them :)

La Arcada II - Santa Barbara Oil Painting - 6x6

I decided to take another shot at this charming courtyard in Santa Barbara.  I experimented with one of my very dark panels again, it switches up my way of thinking about the painting, so I think it's helpful.

Santa Barbara Courthouse, Afternoon - 6x6

I had a fantastic day at the craft fair here in Carpinteria yesterday :) I kind of wish I could have hired someone to sit at my table for me,  I just always feel a little awkward selling my paintings....maybe because it's something so personal (at least to me).  Or because I don't want people to feel like they have to say something nice just because I'm sitting there.  But all in all a great day :)

Santa Barbara Palms - Landscape Oil Painting - 9x12

I had fun painting this one, I'm loving these medium sized panels :)

Today I'm going to attempt to make a very simple version of a quilt...I have very limited sewing skills, but since I own  sewing machine I feel like I should use it.

Santa Barbara Skate Park - Original Oil Painting - 12x12

This is a painting that required some courage, I usually don't like to paint figures, but the sunlight on their clothing was appealing to me.

Two Boats - Stearns Wharf Oil Painting - 5x5

I loved what a bright green color the water was underneath the wharf. And the bright white boats were charming.

I've been working on these little 5x5 paintings this week because I bought these great 5x5" frames last week. I thought they would be fun to bring to Carpinteria's first friday celebration tonight :)

The Lonely Lifeguard Tower - Carpinteria Beach Oil Painting - 6x6

The rain kept on, so this photo isn't great either. It's not even rain, it's just enough drizzle that I can't set a painting down. I've painted this lifeguard tower before, but in a group of three, I think I like this simpler one a little better.

Palms on the Beach - Santa Barbara Landscape - 6x6

I really liked the shadows around these palm trees around sunset last night. Trying to get more motivated to paint on my larger surfaces again. Sometimes I feel like it's big commitment, and I should just see how it turns out on a smaller size first.

Somehow Familiar - Landscape Oil Painting - 6x6

There's a certain part of my new neighborhood that really reminds me of the Dharma houses in Lost...I thinks it's because they're all painted in pastel colors or bright yellow. I feel like I should look out for polar bears when I walk through it.

The last few days of painting have been terribly frustrating. I was on a good streak for awhile, for five days in a row I loved everything I made. Now, nothing, everything looks horrible to me. Luckily I've learned that these things go in cycles, I just have to keep at it.

Trio - Carpinteria Beach Landscape - 12x12

I saw this trio of lifeguard towers on my jog yesterday morning. I got so excited because they were such bright colors, and the sun was shining on them in such a perfect way. I knew they would end up being today's painting :)

Santa Barbara Courthouse - Original Oil Painting - 12x12

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is one of my favorite subjects to paint. I love the color of the shadows on such a white building. I got up extra early this morning to paint, because the rest of my day with be spent in LA, watching the filming of the Glee finale! My best friend acquired free tickets, it's going to be awesome!
