Demo painting

I was asked to do a painting demonstration up at Westmont a few weeks ago.  And even though it was a small class it was still terrifying.  I wasn't scared that I would mess up, I was scared that I'd be boring.  I guess I didn't feel like watching me paint would be terribly entertaining or educational.  Luckily Prof. Sue Savage was there, narrating what I was doing, and making it sound like I was much smarter than I actually am.  Here's the final product.

View from 101 - 8x10 - & 2nd Christmas Boutique

I'm not usually a fan of gray days, but it turns out I am a fan of rainy days :) I saw this scene while I was driving home from Ventura one afternoon.

Also, don't miss the Carpinteria Women's Club Annual Christmas Boutique tomorrow afternoon! I'll be there selling prints, daily paintings, mini ACEO sized paintings for only $25, and more! There's also a raffle and food, it should be lots of fun, and a great way to get original Christmas gifts :)

Palm Reflections - 12x16

I had to put my posts on hold for a couple days because it was SO windy outside, I definitely couldn't get away with bringing a wet painting out to photograph it.  But now it's sunny and gorgeous! I might just spend some time at the beach today :)

Beach Chat - 6x6

I had the best weekend! I love summer by the beach! My sister came down to visit and brought her raft/boat? I'm not sure what you call it, but she made me paddle out much farther than I expected.  Seals grunted at us, and we learned that creepy salamander like things live all over the kelp.  I got to play beach volleyball on Sunday, something I haven't gotten to do in years, SO much fun!

And of course there's lots of people around on the beach, which makes it the best time to practice these types of paintings :)

Bailard Palms - Carpinteria Landscape Oil Painting - 16x20

These were some of my favorite palm trees in Carp, they were such a good shape! Then they decided to cut them up a few weeks ago, now they're just boring.  This was painted from one of my last reference photos of them.

Watercolor Day

I felt a little stale last week, I still liked what I was painting but I felt I needed an exercise to get out of my normal way of thinking.  Working in watercolor forces you to think about everything backwards, just what I needed to mix things up a little.
