MOMA Self Portrait - 6x6

A similar painting to yesterday, except this one has me in it! I really wanted to feature this particular painting but no one would stand in front of it just right, so I had to do it myself.

MOMA Klimt - 5x7

I found a new game to play while I was at the MOMA.  This was fun to paint because I got to reproduce a Klimt painting and try to reproduce the look of interior lighting on a figure...not the easiest thing to do.

Biltmore Wall II - 6x6

I had another go at this group, I felt rushed while I was painting it though, so I'm not as happy as I was with the first one.  However there are certain parts of it that I really like.

In Between Classes - 6x6

I assume this couple was on a break from classes, judging by the backpack, either that or they were having a DTR (define the relationship) talk.  Whichever one, the light was hitting them perfectly and that's what mattered most to me!

In Step - 8x10

I switched up my color palette for this painting.  I took out certain colors that I deemed as "shortcuts" (Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre) or ones that I was just using too much of (Sap Green) and I added a few that have been neglected in my paint drawers for months, such as Quinacridone Rose and Cadmium Green Pale.  I also spent more time working the shadows before adding any of the light parts, since it's the shadows that really make the light shine, and I feel like maybe I've been rushing through them.  Overall I'm happy with the piece, but I was also happy while I was painting it.  I sometimes forget how refreshing it is to mix things up a bit.

Santa Barbara Street - 6x12

I love when paintings are easy to name.  And Santa Barbara St. is always my chosen route, way better than Garden or Laguna.

Looking Down - 6x6

Sometimes I paint things because I'm not sure if I can pull it off. This is one of those times, so I'm really happy with the outcome!

State Street Shopping - 6x6

I took the whole weekend off from painting since it was my husbands birthday.  The sun came out just in time for it, it was a wonderful weekend! And there was a much larger turnout for the reception at the Red Door on Saturday than I expected.  I sold a few pieces, hopefully a few more will sell before the show ends this month.

Sly's Valet - 6x6

I think this is the only restaurant in Carp with valet parking...and it seems a bit unnecessary :)

Sunset Bike Ride - 5x7

I love the colors that appear around sunset, it makes even boring buildings like this come alive.

Karate Kid - 5x7

I don't know why it was this kids job to sweep the sidewalk outside the karate studio....my husband said  to "earn his lessons", that sounds reasonable.

It's going to be a busy weekend here! My Red Door show opens tonight, I'll be there from 5-8.  There is also the Art & Sole walk on Saturday, it starts at the Red Door at 4:00.  Hope to see some of you there!

Park by the Water - 5x7

I was attracted to this scene because of it's contrasts.  I was very excited about painting the guy on the left, that spot of light on his shoulder was the best part.

Beach Day - 6x6

I painted this one just because I liked this little girl's tutu bathing suit (it also had glitter).  Swimsuits were so much more fun as a child :)

Sunbathing - 5x7

What a perfect way to spend Memorial Day, I know that's what I was doing :) That and swimming in the unbelievably cold ocean water, which was worth it since it somehow defrizzed my hair for a full three days afterwards.
