Tomato Pyramid - 6x6

Kind of a strange composition, but something about it just felt right to me.

Golden Light - 6x6

Carpinteria sure has an interesting mix of trees around.  I enjoyed how the light was playing on this one.

Two of a Kind - Pear Still Life - 6x6

I went to Costco recently and bought a huge bag of yummy pears, so that's what I'll be painting for a while :)

Hearst Castle Theatre - 6x6

Definitely my favorite in the series so far.  I started with a very dark colored painting surface for this one, it ended up making things a lot easier and a lot faster. I'm excited to keep experimenting...

Hearst Castle Interior II - 6x6

Second in the series, I liked that this one included the source of that interesting blue light.

Tomato Love - Still life oil painting - 5x5

This is a painting that sold at the craft fair I did a few weeks ago, I forgot that I never even posted it here.  I don't really consider it "serious" art,  I liked the colors together, and it's just fun....and that's ok.

Avocado in Red II - Still life oil painting - 11x14

Here's a larger version of the painting I did last week.  The panel I painted this one made it turn out very shiny, I'm not sure why, but the same thing happened with yesterday's plein air painting.

I'm now off to declare war on the aphids attacking my vegetable garden! If anyone has any suggestions on how to get rid of them I could use it!

Avocado in Red - Still life oil painting - 6x6

This painting was so fun, I don't use this much red very often.  Zach walked in and dubbed it the "Christmas Avocado".

Afternoon Vines - Original Oil Painting - 6x6

I liked how the light was hitting these vines, and those shadows in the back just begged to be painted.

I made some blog changes yesterday, I added a portfolio tab, and I also added an option to buy prints of my work. Let me know what you guys think! :)

Still Life Trio - Commissioned work

I did this set for a buyer last week. She wanted them all in this palette knife style, which is fun to do, so I'm glad people like them.

Red Pepper - Still life oil painting - 5x5

First Friday was last night, and it went pretty well :) I sold a couple of paintings, and got to hang out with fellow artist Kim Snyder , a local celebrity of sorts :) for good reason since her paintings are amazing!

Stearns Wharf Fish and Chips - Original Oil Painting - 5x5

Red buildings are so much fun :) I found a ton of great stuff to paint on Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara, I'll have to go back soon. I actually included some people in this little scene...baby steps.

The Night Light - Daily Oil Painting - 6x6

I'm switching it up a little this monday morning, sometimes I forget that it's fun to paint night scenes. I really like how this one turned out, I wish I could have captured the actual colors used in the dark areas in this painting. I didn't use any black paint, so there's more interest in these areas than what the camera is showing :)

Plate for Two - Still life oil painting - 6x6

A very happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there :)

A little still life for today. I was trying out a slightly different process while I painted this one. I usually lay down a sort of brownish ground and then pencil in my composition on top, well I ran out of lead in my pencil, and since we're still in temp housing there were no other pencils around. So this one was marked in with paint...that always made me nervous before, like I would ruin the painting before I even started. This time it worked very well, I don't think I'll ever go back.
