Carpinteria Bluffs - daily painting

I wasn't able to post a painting yesterday because my husband took me on a romantic getaway for our early Valentines day :) but I'm back today this piece. It turned out a little... umm...I don't even know what to call it... it just wasn't how I thought it would turn out. But it is a painting of one of my favorite places, which I miss very much...especially in the winter.

I've been so distracted with my new etsy shop that I've completely forgotten to update my blog.
This whole etsy thing has gone a lot better than I expected. I've sold 9 paintings already and I haven't even been open for two weeks. There are a few new paintings that I'm excited to post, but I have to wait till they dry, fortunately I live in the driest climate ever and that happens pretty fast. For now here is one of my newer ones:

The walls in our new house are still completely bare. So I was brainstorming about ways I could fill them. The thing is it's hard for me to have my own work up on the walls day after day, it makes me want to change things, or somehow make it better. So whatever I put up there is going to have to be something I really love. Today I completed a very small version of something I might want, I would change a few things, but I think this has potential.

I love painting pears. They're always a different shape, they're usually a wonderful green color (at least the ones I pick are), and I think they have more personality than any other fruit. I think these two could have speech bubbles depicting their conversation.

I'm going to try painting a few on hardboard. I think the texture of the canvas panel is really throwing off my groove. Maybe it will be amazing. Till tomorrow:

I thought I would try my hand at another night scene. It's not my favorite one, but I did learn a few things that will help me next time.

I'm working on a series of paintings now that will all be painted pretty quickly. I want the brushstrokes to be very loose, and I want the colors to be more vibrant than they would be in real life. I also want to chose subjects that have extreme dark and light areas. I've learned that these are usually things that drawn me to a particular painting. It's also a fun way to paint.

Snow day

Last Thursday was a snow day, my first one ever. And I discovered that snow is much more fun when you get a day off work, and have unexpected time to pursue happier things.

I painted this from a photo I took at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, when Zach and I were there getting our marriage license. Mostly I just wanted to paint the sunlight on the bushes, it just looked fun to me.

Things have finally settled down after the wedding and moving to a new home. My new studio is all set up, and super cozy, the perfect place to paint.

This painting might be my favorite, and it's not very often that I'm satisfied with one of my own works
