November 4, 2009

I thought I would try my hand at another night scene. It's not my favorite one, but I did learn a few things that will help me next time.

I'm working on a series of paintings now that will all be painted pretty quickly. I want the brushstrokes to be very loose, and I want the colors to be more vibrant than they would be in real life. I also want to chose subjects that have extreme dark and light areas. I've learned that these are usually things that drawn me to a particular painting. It's also a fun way to paint.

Snow day

Last Thursday was a snow day, my first one ever. And I discovered that snow is much more fun when you get a day off work, and have unexpected time to pursue happier things.

I painted this from a photo I took at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, when Zach and I were there getting our marriage license. Mostly I just wanted to paint the sunlight on the bushes, it just looked fun to me.

Things have finally settled down after the wedding and moving to a new home. My new studio is all set up, and super cozy, the perfect place to paint.

This painting might be my favorite, and it's not very often that I'm satisfied with one of my own works

Morning chair 5x7

I wish I could do a painting everyday. I've been reading some blogs of artists that do that, some are really amazing... maybe I could be amazing too if I got to work on it every day. I love this view from my window in the morning, something about how the light reflects on the building and the chair is interesting to me. One of these days I'll figure out how to actually photograph a painting, maybe a scanner would work better...

Zach let me have a much needed painting day yesterday. I'm working toward a new look, I know what I want it to look like in my head, but putting it on the canvas is more difficult than expected (I guess my brain pictures are fuzzy). I think I touched on it a little by the third painting. I like the bottom left part of the second painting. I'll get it eventually.
